This is my top recommendation for a video game store. The staff is always extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. Excellent selection for almost every console ever made.
They go out of their way to have some fun release events. Local business, not a large franchise. I purchased two items from this store earlier today. During that interaction, I was not given a receipt.
He argued with me about this and refused to admit fault. The second employee that was actually processing my refund said that they weren't supposed to refund me because it was a used item and I didn't have a receipt but that he would do it. I told him that I didn't think I was ever coming back and he said "I don't know what to tell you. You've had an attitude since you came in here". If that is the level of customer service this business offers, I don't want to be a customer.
I've purchased things from Video Games Etc for years, and this is the first time I've had to deal with blatant disrespect, on top of being called a liar in front of multiple people. Amazing selection and will give you a much better deal on trade ins than larger game stores in the same plaza. Pre orders are great events that make you want to pre order more games just to attend the event. At this job I really didn't learn that much as far as the actual job functions go, but I did get management experience here. Additionally it gave me great face-to-face sales experience. Keeping employees on task while occasionally taking a break to play a game with them if something neat came in or something had just come out and we were able to play test it on our demo console.
Was founded in 1993, when the company's first store opened in Dubuque. While video game and movie resale shops have been struggling with competition from online sales and the digital market, Burke said the local chain continues to expand. All of my video games are purchased at Video Games Etc. Every time I go into the store I am greeted. The employees are really nice and the prices are MUCH better than other stores around. Trade in credit and pre-owned prices are always more than reasonable.
When I first moved to Cedar Rapids I went to Game Stop to trade in my Wii and was very disappointed in the credit they offered. Went 3 stores down and was offered twice that amount at Video Games Etc. Great store, knowledgeable staff that are happy to help, explain, or just chat about games. Good prices and they run lots of specials. Cheapest Magic the Gathering cards in town.
Very good prices relative to ebay etc. They have pokemon booster boxes, and packs as well, Dragonball, and Magic the gathering. Overall the workers here are very knowledgeable about their products and industry and are pleasant people.
They share a parking lot with both Walmart and GameStop, and I'm still extremely confident that this local Video Games etc. Is the best of these options by a Longshot. Love the fact that they carry games and consoles from several generations, as well as accessories, memorabilia and referbished electronics. The prices here are better than you will find anywhere else, including trade in values. The staff is honest, knowledgeable and a lot of fun. I come by the store often to see the new items that arrive regularly.

They share a parking lot with both Walmart and GameStop, and Im still extremely confident that this local Video Games etc. I have bought many games and systems from them over the past couple years.
The employees are very friendly and helpful, and used games tend to be cheaper than the nearby Gamestop. They also have a much wider selection of games than Gamestop, including lots of games for classic systems such as the N64. Great place if you know a lot about games and can sell what you love. Getting traded items into store inventory, doing trade-in for customers, and trying to sell at the same time can become stressful at times.
You learn a lot of good selling techniques and if you do well at selling and or getting pre-orders you will go far. VGE is a locally owned company with 7 stores in Iowa & Illinois. Please give some feedback on what you think of the store. Always more than helpful staff, great knowledge, and honest opinions on products. They aren't trying to sell you something just to move products, they want to sell you something you'll be happy with. They remind you of what Gamestop is SUPPOSED to be, but never will be again.
Video Games ETC is truly a relic of better times in the industry, and I recommend spending your hard earned bottle caps here to ensure they stick around for years to come. "There are video game consoles and product lines that we carried when we started that we now don't. But you have to evolve to stay relevant." Wide selection of video game merchandise including used games and hardware of retro consoles.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff go out of their way to help. Have not had a bad experience here yet. They arent trying to sell you something just to move products, they want to sell you something youll be happy with. I was told in snotty tone i had to pay first. I have not been told that before and would not have cared aside from managers attitude.
I called him out on it and he said that you don't work in my line of work. I went from buying games and about $30 in resurfaced games to $3. The manager on duty brings up where I work without my mentioning it.
I take that as a threat and asked him what that has to to with anything. Enjoy going here, wouldn't go anywhere else. Incredibly nice employees that make the visit to the store even better. In 1997, the owners chose to rename the company Video Games Etc!

Video game nerds always ready to talk and its always fun. Liked this store when I was a kid, had excellent selection of classic games.
